If you are planning an addition or remodeling a kitchen, bath or home addition – you know how stressful the process can be.  With proper planning and organization the process can become a lot smoother.  Here are some tips to help you get through a home renovation.

Research contractors – Fully research potential contractors in your area by looking at reviews and checking any and all accreditations.  The best contractors are fully licensed, insured, and have a proven track record with local homeowners and the community.

Set a realistic budget – Set a realistic budget while still leaving room in your budget for any changes you might want to make.

Protect your property – Removing photos from walls, covering furniture, and moving all valuables from the construction area will keep your belongings safe.

Rearrange – If you’re remodeling a kitchen consider about moving your appliances to another room so you can still have meals at home.  If you won’t be able to access your living room try moving your furniture to another room where it will still be usable.

Schedule –Plan your schedule accordingly by having the contractor gives you an overall project timeline as well as the hours workers will be at your home.

Get away – Plan to be out of the house as much as possible during construction by planning a vacation or organize a week full of day trips.  This will keep you from getting stressed out.

Pets – Noisy construction sites are stressful and unsafe for your beloved pets.  Consider boarding your pet while work is being done on your home.

A home renovation can be seamless if you hire the right contractor and if you spend some time preparing your home and family for the process.
